Vũ Hà Anh is one of the more popular models from Vietnam. She has managed to make a name for herself both in the local and international fashion industry. At 36 years old, she’s a little bit older than the other models that are now on the radar. However, that hasn’t stopped her from achieving supermodel status.
So how exactly did Hà Anh get to that level of fame?
Let’s start at the beginning.
Hà Anh’s parents raised her and her sister in a Western environment, exposing them to foreign languages and extra-curricular activities in sports and music. She attended school at Hanoi-Amsterdam High School, one of the magnet schools in Hanoi, Vietnam. While there, she was ridiculed a lot for her looks and her height (she stands tall at 5’9”), though she still received offers to play basketball and model. She was determined to get a scholarship to attend college abroad, which she was eventually able to achieve at a school in England.
How did Hà anh career start?
Modeling wasn’t the first job Hà Anh landed. She first got a job as a telemarketer, then as a sales consultant for brands like Christian Dior. She began to pursue her modeling career in 2006 with an agency in London. After a few years, however, she terminated her contract and decided to focus on expanding her potential in the domestic market. She quickly gained popularity in the Vietnamese industry, and many praised her for her work ethic and professionalism.
In the course of her modeling career, she has walked the runway of several shows across the world’s fashion capitals: London, Paris, Shanghai, and New York City, to name a few. As a commercial model, she has worked with brands like Gucci, Lynx, and Tony & Guy.
In connection to her modeling career, she also tried her hand in beauty pageants. Hà Anh was, unfortunately, not as successful in this endeavor. She represented Vietnam in the 2006 Miss Earth pageant in the Philippines. She didn’t make it to the semi-finals but she did win runner-up in the talent portion. Two years later, she went for the big guns in Miss Universe Vietnam. She didn’t make it far there either, but she has claimed that she learned to shine with what she has instead of trying to adjust to what the majority wants.
During the Miss Earth talent show, she sang Hero by Mariah Carey. She revealed that singing was her first passion, even before fashion. In 2011, she participated in a Vietnamese singing reality show, where her talent really showed. After the competition, she revealed that she wanted to take up a career in singing. She released her first single later that year and then the second one early in 2012. Her last single came in 2014.
Obviously, her most successful venture has been in modeling, and that’s the track she has stayed on to this day.
Outside of Vũ Hà Anh professional life
In 2010, UNICEF officially appointed her as a Goodwill Ambassador, a feat she says was a ‘life-long dream’. UNICEF was hopeful that with her visibility and connections with the cultural scene, she would be able to mobilize her peers and supporters towards the cause of children’s rights. Her advocacy focuses on “combating stigma and discrimination towards children affected by HIV and AIDS. She will advocate for road safety and continue to encourage universal breastfeeding, among other issues”.
Additionally, Hà Anh became a Global Angels Ambassador in August 2013. The Global Angels is an international development community aimed at helping disadvantaged communities around the world by replicating sustainable projects. She hosted their awards show and performed alongside other international artists and fellow ambassadors.
Hà Anh was always public about her previous relationships, not being afraid to announce a new boyfriend or when a relationship ended. Currently, she’s married to Oliver Dowden, a teacher at an international school in Ho Chi Minh City. They began dating in 2014 and got married in 2016. On June 26, 2018, Hà Anh and Oliver welcomed their first child, daughter Myla Vu-Dowden.
