Popular Bangkok-based glamour model Jessie Vard might face up to a year in prison for promoting online Sport betting sites to her followers. Gambling is illegal in Thailand and Thai law enforcement has been cracking down on online gambling particularly sports betting.
The gambling crackdowns have intensified as the World Cup 2018 in Russia is picking up the pace with teams from around the world vie for their shot at the title.
Jessie Vard has been known to promote a wide range of products/services to her 2 million-strong followers on Facebook and 180,000 followers on Instagram. The Irish model has taken some notoriety for her sexy advertisements. Some have called on her to stop her modeling while others countered with a petition asking her NOT TO STOP posting sexy pictures.
Jessie Vard may now face up to a year in prison and/or a fine of $26 (~1,000 THB) for her gambling promotions. Fortunately, the sentence is light as the Irish bombshell model is not in any way directly employed under the gambling companies.
She, along with other models, voluntarily surrendered in the Phayathai Police Headquarters. They all held a press conference publicly apologizing for their actions. The women also warned other models not to get involved with these sites. Other models who charged were: Paradee Koosinsap, Nirada Kuenongkun, Thanyakarn Lojin, Saisarn Wangprasert and Saitarn Yim-ampai. All women were released on bail with a hearing scheduled sometime in July 2018.
Other notable women in the list aside from Jessie Vard are Saisarn Wangprasert and Thanyakarn Lojin. Saisarn Wangprasert is the wife of Thai gangster turned actor “Keng Laiprang” while Thanyarkarn Lojin has had trouble with the law before as she went topless on Facebook live back in 2017.
Meanwhile, 15 other Thai models have been charged with the same anti-gambling law violations but their names have been kept under wraps.
