Screw winter, spring, summer, and fall! Film, TV, and music lovers come alive during “Awards Season”, which essentially starts with the Emmy Awards in September and ends with the Academy Awards in February the next year. There are countless award shows and events that occur in these 6 months, but there are a few that everyone always looks forward to: the Emmys, the American Music Awards, the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, and the Grammys. Of course, there are the VMAs (August) and the Tony Awards (June) outside of these months as well. But arguably the most-anticipated award show of the year is the Oscars.
This year, the 2019 Oscars were held on February 24,
2019 Oscars Red Carpet Looks
1. Brie Larson
Brie Larson looks stunning in a sparkling silver gown with a halter neckline and thigh-high slit. She wasn’t nominated for the 2019 Oscars but she was a presenter. She’s a previous Oscar winner already, having bagged the Best Actress award for her role in Room in 2016.
2. Charlize Theron
In a dramatic makeover, Charlize Theron showed up on the red carpet with a brunette chin-length bob and a bright red lip. Her periwinkle dress from Dior Haute Couture looks simple from the front, but it’s the huge cutout in the back that really grabs your attention. She partners the dress with a diamond Bulgari serpent necklace.
3. Amandla Stenberg
In her first-ever Oscars ceremony, Amandla Stenberg sets a new standard with her nod to 1920s sophistication in both her braided updo and her flapper-inspired metallic crystal-chained gown by Miu Miu. She’s certainly come a long way from her role as little Rue in The Hunger Games!
4. Meagan Good
The Anchorman 2 actress showed up to the red carpet in a baby pink Georges Chakra gown with an asymmetrical mesh cutout across the top half and an almost waist-high slit up her leg. She was joined by her husband, Hollywood producer DeVon Franklin.
5. Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson may be facing some fresh criticism for her “flat” performance during the 2019 Oscars ceremony, but there’s no denying that she looked fiery in that bright red, ruffled, asymmetrical Elie Saab gown. The dress features a slit high enough to show just enough leg!
Vanity Fair After-Party
1. Kendall Jenner
Trust a Kardashian-Jenner to make an entrance! Kendall Jenner has legs to the high heavens and she knows it – and she shows no fear in flaunting it. In a dress cut off right at the waist, there’s just enough fabric for the rest of it to look like a skirt.
2. Adriana Lima
Victoria’s Secret Angels look good anywhere and everywhere, and Adriana Lima at the Vanity Fair after-party is no different. She’s decked out in an off-white dress that looks like a long, button-up coat. The deep neckline is complemented by a waist-high slit, and her revealed thigh is accentuated by a crystal-embedded ring.
3. Miley Cyrus
It looks like Miley Cyrus has been loving her plunging necklines and sideboobs over the past weeks of awards shows. At the Grammys, she sported a few open coats that had just a peek of her inner sideboob. The Vanity Fair after-party featured another sideboob-showing ensemble but in a sparkling black gown instead of a coat.
4. Freida Pinto
Freida Pinto is no stranger to great high fashion looks on the red carpet. This year, she was sporting a ruby red sparkling gown with a neckline and slit that practically meets in the middle of her body. The sexiness is slightly dulled down by the long sleeves and padded shoulders.
5. Emily Ratajkowsi / Nina Dobrev
We couldn’t decide between Emily and Nina for our last favorite at the 2019 Oscars, so we put them both together. It certainly helps that their facial features are very similar, and their dresses have a similar aesthetic, too. Both brunette beauties wore dresses with a sweetheart neckline, though Nina’s has a mesh covering both above the neckline and sleeves. Both dresses are straight cut with a ruffled waistline and hemline. Can’t decide who wore it best!
